چکیده

This paper describes a new time-resolved threedimensional, three-component (3D-3C) measurement technique called wall-PIV. It was developed to assess near wall flow fields and shear rates near non-planar surfaces. The method is based on light absorption according to Beer– Lambert’s law. The fluid containing a molecular dye and seeded with buoyant particles is illuminated by a monochromatic, diffuse light. Due to the dye, the depth of view is limited to the near wall layer. The three-dimensional particle positions can be reconstructed by the intensities of the particle’s projection on an image sensor. The flow estimation is performed by a new algorithm, based on learned particle trajectories. Possible sources of measurement errors related to the wall-PIV technique are analyzed. The accuracy analysis was based on single particle experiments and a three-dimensional artificial data set simulating a rotating sphere.

The Wall-PIV Measurement Technique for Near Wall Flow Fields in Biofluid Mechanics

This chapter describes the development of a new time resolved 3D PIV technique for near wall flow field measurements. This measurement technique, called wall-PIV, is based on Beer-Lambert’s law. It substitutes the classical PIV laser sheet by a diffuse, monochromatic full-field illumination that is limited to the near wall region by an absorbing molecular dye in the fluid. Aimed range of applic...

Direct measurement of fluid velocity gradients at a wall by PIV image processing with stereo reconstruction

Velocity gradient is typically estimated in Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) by differentiating a measured velocity field, which amplifies noise in the measured velocities. If gradients near a boundary are sought, such noise is usually greater than in bulk fluid, because of small tracer displacement, uncertainty in the effective positions of velocity vectors, intense deformation of tracer patte...

Three-dimensional Flow Visualization and Piv Measurement in near Field of Strongly Buoyant Jet

The near-field structure of strongly buoyant jet issuing from a square nozzle at low Froude and Reynolds numbers is studied by using three-dimensional LIF flow visualization and scanning PIV. These experimental techniques allow the visualization of unsteady three-dimensional flow phenomenon occurring in the near-field of strongly buoyant jet. It is found that the buoyant jet is unstable to the ...

Assessment of Dual Plane PIV Measurements in Wall Turbulence Using DNS Data

Experimental dual plane particle image velocimetry (PIV) data are assessed using direct numerical simulation (DNS) data of a similar flow with the aim of studying the effect of averaging within the interrogation window. The primary reason for the use of dual plane PIV is that the entire velocity gradient tensor and hence the full vorticity vector can be obtained. One limitation of PIV is the li...

One-pot Three-component Functionalization of Carboxylated Shortend Multi-wall Nanotubes with Histidine Derivative

In this project, a three-component functionalization of carboxylated shortend multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT-COOH) by Histidine derivative via amidation method have been investigated. The functionalized MWNTs were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy, elemental analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
